The Eagles open their preseason Friday night against the New York Jets. The Birds lost 24-21, but there were some really encouraging signs from the starters.

First, the Eagles offense looked aggressive and fast. They got out of the gate early thanks to a good throw from Jalen Hurts to Dallas Geodert and scored on first down. Hurts went 6/6, 80 yards, 1 TD. He looked good throwing the ball and was able to spread the ball up the field to several different receivers very well. Quez Watkins and Miles Sanders looked really fast. It was encouraging to see Sanders catch two balls out of the backfield and make a nice run after the catch. The only downside was not seeing any shots on AJ Brown, but we’ll see more of that as the season progresses.

Another encouraging sign was the play of the starting linebackers and D line. The D-line looked fast and the Eagles may finally have a really good Linebacking core! Kyzir White made a great catch on the first drive and TJ Edwards made some significant improvements this offseason. The chemistry between Nakobe Dean was already evident. You can tell they are really on the same page and are going to be really good Eagles for a long time. Jordan Davis also looked like an absolute monster on the inside and was making strides as an NFL starter like nothing.

The Birds have obviously made some big strides this season, and even thought the starters only played one or two drives, they’ve shown some really encouraging signs.
